Saghir wants hospitals emergency

Sindh Minister for Health Dr Saghir Ahmed on Thursday directed the Medical Superintendents of all Civil Hospitals and Taluka to keep their respective Emergency Departments functional round-the-clock.

In a statement, he said that 100 percent presence of doctors and other medical staff must be ensured as a back-up support to special medical camps and mobile units constituted by the department.

The minister reiterated that the health department had already cancelled leaves granted to the medical professionals associated with the department due to the ensuing emergency situation consequent to floods in the country.

Dr Ahmed urged the concerned heads of the provincial government hospitals to ensure adequate stocks of essential and flood-induced emergency medicines. “There must not be any shortage, otherwise strict action will be taken against the concerned incharge,” he warned.

Meanwhile, as per the directive of the Sindh Health Minister Secretary for Health, Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, on Thursday, left for the northern parts of the province to review arrangements made related to medical camps in high risk districts such as Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Jacobabad.

Additional Secretary for Health, Dr. Abdul Majid and the Director-General, Health, Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Channa are already supervising the assistance work from Sukkur and Hyderabad respectively. As many as 164 camps and 96 mobile teams are working on a 24-hour basis in 20 different districts in Sindh.
