KARACHI 10 years back

KDA not to hand over development schemes to other civic bodies

In view of KMC’s attitude, the Karachi Development Authority has planned not to hand over its developed scheme to other civic bodies and to maintain the schemes at its own.

Director General KDA, Brig (Rtd) S Zaheeruddin Kadri revealed this at a meeting of the KDA governing body (GB) on Tuesday, held with Director General Katchi Abadi in the chair.

It was stated that KMC was demanding the right of collecting charges, including land use charges from allottees, it addition to collection of conservancy charges, in the case of ready schemes in Clifton, Surjani Town and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, which was unacceptable for KDA as by doing so it could lose a regular source of income, said one participant of the meeting.

However, the GB did not give any version on the issue and observed that KDA and KMC should further deliberate on the subject and furnish their observation and reservation, if any, to the GB, added the sources.

During the meeting the Secretary, Housing and Town Planning, informed the members that in principle the Sindh governor had agreed to lift ban on allotment of alternate plots to affected people. However, any action in this regard could only be taken after a formal notification, added the source quoting him.

Discussing over other items of the agenda, the meeting advised the owners of a number of plots in the city to get the completion certificate regarding construction on their respective plots. The meeting also directed the KBCA staff concerned not to discourage people applying for the completion certificates rather extend full cooperation to applicants.

The meeting was told that about 45,000 property owners had not acquired the construction completion certificates, while 700, out of 1,100 applicants, were issued the completion certificates. In the shape of completion certificate fee and regularization KDA/KBCA could earn Rs 6 billion, added the source.

The meeting was also critical about misuse of amenity plots and once again asked the KDA to cancel allotment of all such plots where violation of land sue was observed.
