Altaf Hussain for emergency funds for rain, flood victims

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has called upon the government to take measures on a war-footing basis for relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees in different areas in the country.

In a statement issued by the MQM here on Saturday, Hussain said that the people in various areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh had sustained heavy losses due to heavy rains and floods and they needed immediate help.

Hussain also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and properties due to the heavy showers and floods.

He said that his party shared the grief of the people, who suffered losses.

He called upon the government to take immediate measures for the relief and rehabilitation of the rain and flood affectees and also called for establishment of special funds for them.

Meanwhile, MQM’s ministers in Sindh paid detailed visit to the protective bunds in different areas in the province.

The ministers — Zubair Ahmed and Nisar Ahmed Panhwer — visited the protective bunds to review the arrangements to cope with the expected flood, said a statement issued by the MQM.

They also met with the local people and enquired about their problems and directed the concerned authorities to shift the people from Katcha areas to safer places.

Office-bearers of the MQM as well as the officials of the irrigation department were also present.

During the visit, Ahmed met with the District Coordination Officer (DCO), Nawabshah and also assured full cooperation on behalf of the MQM to provide relief to the flood affectees.

Panhwer met with the office-bearers of the MQM Kashmore and also visited the protective bunds at Guddu Barrage.
