MQM Coordination Committee asks KESC to end enmity with K­Karachiites

Condemning the unannounced prolonged load-shedding in the city, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Coordination Committee said here on Friday that exorbitant billing and an increase in Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC) amounted to absolute `injustices’ and `excesses’ on the part of Karachi Electricity Supply Company `prejudiced’ management.

The Coordination Committee demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Ashraf Pervez, Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, to withdraw the notification whereby National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity tariff under the head of Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC) by Rs1.60 paisa per unit.

In a hard-hitting statement issued on Friday, the Coordination Committee said that the KESC despite resorting to prolonged load-shedding has been issuing excessive billing to its consumers while the NEPRA has increased electricity tariff under the head of FAC by Rs1.60 per unit.

Lashing out at the power utility, the Coordination Committee said that “the prejudiced management of KESC must bring halt to its enmity with the Karachiites.”

The Committee also urged the people at the helm of affairs to direct KESC’s `prejudiced’ management to bring an end to its enmity with Karachiites by ensuring that the citizens might not suffer load-shedding during Sehr and Iftar, besides the trend of issuing excessive billing must stop.

Elaborating, the Coordination Committee said that although Karachi being the hub of economic activities had been contributing 70 per cent to the national exchequer, the KESC by resorting to prolonged load-shedding in the city has, on the one hand, badly crippled the business activities and, on the other, made the citizens lives miserable in the Holy month of Ramadan.

The Committee said that the KESC consumers despite paying regular electricity bills were being issued excessive and over and above their actual meter reading whereas the NEPRA by increasing electricity tariff under the head of FAC has been putting additional financial burden on the citizens.

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has appealed to the people hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and living in Karachi to make the public meeting being held on 24th June in Jinnah Ground Azizabad by the MQM a huge success by participating in large numbers.
Mr Hussain said that the MQM is the representative political party of the oppressed people throughout the country and it was the main reason that they were coming to the MQM along with religious minorities in big numbers.

Mr Hussain said that the MQM was paving the way for a revolution of the people belonging to the poor and middle classes by uniting them on a single platform. He hoped that the Pashtun and Hazarewal people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would show their confidence in the MQM by making the public meeting a historic success.

Mr Hussain said that the public meeting would give a clear message of peaceful harmony and brotherly relations and this would be a landmark event.

19th June is a black day in the history of the country: Altaf Hussain

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the 19th June 1992 and said that a movement that has been strengthened by the blood of the loyal and determined workers cannot be prevented from succeeding by any worldly power.

In a message on the occasion of the anniversary being held to commemorate the memory of the martyrs of the 19th June 1992, Mr Hussain said that that the elements that had hatched conspiracies to wipe out the MQM had themselves been uprooted and spurned and they had failed to pull away workers and the general public from the mission and the philosophy of the MQM.

Mr Hussain said that the 19th June was a black day in the history of the country and it could not be forgotten. A ferocious state operation was started against the MQM and its offices were forcefully seized. Thousands of the MQM workers and supporters were mercilessly put to death during the operation and a large number of workers were physically disabled by inflicting barbaric physical torture. Many more had to leave their homes and go abroad in order to avoid ruthless persecution.

Mr Hussain warned that the MQM could not be eliminated howsoever the elements conspiring against the MQM may try. The roots of the MQM have spread across the country and it was only because of the immortal sacrifices offered by the martyrs.

Mr Hussain paid rich tributes to the martyrs and that the mission and objective for which the martyrs had laid down their lives would not be given up. The peaceful struggle would continue till the achievement of the higher objectives for which so many people had given their lives.

Altaf Hussain expresses grief and sorrow on the martyrdom of Syed Qarar Ali

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has expressed his grief and sorrow on the killing of Syed Qarar Ali and injuring of Syed Zakir Ali, brothers of former MPA and member of the MQM Election Cell Syed Shakir Ali, by the firing of criminal elements and extortionists.

Mr Hussain offered his condolences to the bereaved family members and said that the blood of the MQM workers, sympathizers and general public, spilled heartlessly, would not be allowed to go waste. He said that the hardened killers, bereft of humanity, would meet their deserved end.

Mr Hussain asked the grieving family members to bear with patience. He said that their grief was felt by him and the workers of the MQM equally. He prayed Almighty Allah to shower his blessings on the departed soul and descend serenity on the hearts of the family members. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured Syed Zakir Ali.

Three MQM workers killed in Karachi by gangsters of banned Peoples Amn Committee

Three MQM workers killed in Karachi in the result of finring of armed gangsters of banned Peoples Amn Committee. According to the details, in Meethadar area of Karachi, an MQM worker Mansoor was on his bangle shop, terrorist of Lyari gangster open fire him. Mansoor was died on the spot while another MQM worker Shahid was injured. According to the eye witness, assailent were four and they were on motorcycle. They belong to the Wasi Ullah group of banned Peoples Amn Committee.

In Bihar Colony area of old Lyari Karachi, Asim, an MQM sector member of Old Lyari was died after indiscriminate firing by terrorist of banned Peoples Amn Committee. Assailant belongs to the Zahid Ladla group of banned PAC.

In Azim Plaza area of Lyari, terrorists of same group open indiscriminate firing on MQM workers Umer Sharief and Qazi Anis. Both were rickshaw driver and they were sitting on their rickshaws. In result of firing, Umer Shaief was died while Qazi Anis seriously injured.

According to the report more than a dozen MQM workers were killed after stopping the Police operation against banned Peoples Amn Committee in Lyari. Killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortions and other criminal activities has accelerated in Karachi but no action has been taken by Police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies. People of Karachi are very upset this situation and feel unsecure.

Altaf Hussain grieved at the martyrdom of MQM workers Asim Ahsan and Muhammad Mansoor

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has express his profound grief and sorrow on the martyrdoms of Asim Ahsan, a worker of Old Lyari Sector of the MQM, and Muhammad Mansoor, a worker of Unit UC-3 B, of Ranchore Line Sector. He said that both the workers were earning an honest livelihood for their families, but they were mercilessly gunned down by the criminal elements at their places of worship.

He expressed sympathies to the grief-stricken families and offered his condolences. He said that their grief was equally shared by him and all the workers of the MQM. He also prayed Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and give courage and patience to the families to bear this irreparable loss.

MQM submits budgetary proposals for the financial year 2012 – 13 to CM Sindh

PRESS CONFERENCE BY PARLIAMENTARY LEADER OF THE MQM IN THE SINDH ASSEMBLY

Parliamentary party of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh has handed over budget proposals for the financial year 2012-13 to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and the provincial finance minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. This was announced by Mr Syed Sardar Ahmed, parliamentary leader of the MQM in the Sindh Assembly, in a press conference.Deputy parliamentary leader and provincial minister Syed Faisal Sabzwari, provincial ministers Mr Shaikh Muhammad Afzal, Mr Nisar Panhwar, and Mr Zubair Ahmed Khan accompanied Mr Ahmed during the press conference.

Talking to the press and media Mr Ahmed said that the MQM has presented the proposals in line with the vision of MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain for the welfare of the people of Sindh in the form of a formal budget document.

Mr Ahmed said that CM Shah had asked the provincial finance minister to analyze the proposals submitted by the MQM and efforts be made to incorporate the suggestions in the upcoming budget of the Sindh province.

Mr Ahmed said that the proposals recommend all taxable incomes to be brought under the tax net. An agricultural Income Tax Bill 2012 has also been made a part of the proposals.
Mr Ahmed said that the proposals not only support the giving of subsidy on wheat, it also recommends subsidy on wheat flour as well in order to contain the prices of a flour bag of 40 kg to Rs 750.

Mr Ahmed said that the MQM has proposed 160 billion rupees for development expenditures, and it would not be a deficit budget.
Earlier, the MQM members in the National Assembly had submitted budgetary proposals in the form of a shadow budget to the prime minister.

Shadow Budget 2012-13, The News .... By Ali Murtaza

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) presented a ‘shadow budget’ for the fiscal year 2012-13 on Sunday, 27th May 2012, ahead of the upcoming federal budget of Pakistan. This budget was presented by Deputy Convenor and Parliamentary Leader of MQM in the National Assembly, Dr. Farooq Sattar in a media briefing at a local hotel of Islamabad, which was well-attended by journalists, economists, financial advisors and parliamentarians of MQM. ‘Shadow Budget’ presented by MQM is actually the first-ever budget presented by any political party in the history of Pakistan.

Contrary to the term ‘Budget’, commonly known and intrigued by a common man in Pakistan, ‘Shadow Budget’ is the term that has never been heard or known to the general public. In most of the developed countries, it is a general practice that opposition parties propose a shadow budget, prior to the actual budget which is the responsibility of the incumbent government.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement, a coalition partner of the government and clearly not an opposition party, nevertheless made an effort in putting together a shadow budget that has set a commendable precedent for other political parties to follow.

By and large, it has been witnessed in Pakistan that political parties in opposition, instead of developing alternative policies and rigorously scrutinising the Government, often endeavour to criticise for the sake of criticism and seldom come up with any practical solutions.

It is a fact that every common Pakistani, especially young generation, is now fed up of listening to the hollow promises and empty rhetoric. At present, people are eager to see a change and without revamping the facade of politics, we can’t expect to win the trust of the people. Political parties must learn lessons from the past and develop result-oriented policies to save the country from political and economical turmoil.

MQM’s shadow budget is not a magical solution or a quick-fix approach for our economy. Proposed workable plans in this budget will certainly go a long way helping achieve economic goals, if implemented. Furthermore, this budget will provide an opportunity for the people of Pakistan to understand the underlying economic problems and it will also give a food for thought for the government.

MQM has claimed to cut down the budget deficit by 50% through its shadow budget proposals from Rs1.143 trillion to Rs575 billion and foreign debt is said to be reduced from Rs414 billion to Rs75 billion. It would definitely be a considerable achievement for Pakistan under current economic climate, if the budget deficit and foreign debts could be decreased.

In order to achieve aforementioned figures provided in the shadow budget, it has been proposed that Income from all sources, above the taxable limit should be taxed and sales tax rate should be reduced from 16% to 12 percent.

It has been envisaged that direct taxes will be augmented from 32 percent to 45 percent and indirect taxes will be decreased from 68 percent to 55 percent, along with powers to the federal government to collect agriculture income tax. It has also been proposed that Petroleum levy should be abolished, Federal government should reduce its expenditure by Rs90 billion after devolution of ministries and Public sector enterprises should be run through public-private partnership.

In a nut shell, major outcome from this shadow budget report is that it will challenge the Government to re-evaluate its current economic policy that has so far failed to stimulate the economy and prevent excessive inflation. Let’s hope that the Government will respond positively to all the suggestions included in the shadow budget and pursue a solid economic framework to steer our country out of recession.

We all know that economic stability is a key to a stronger, sovereign and prosperous Pakistan; therefore drastic and extra-ordinary steps must be taken by the Government to free us from the shackles of foreign debt dependency.

Maximum relief and ample growth opportunities should be provided to the common man, who is currently the worst sufferer of our ailing economy. Lastly, in order to address the economic crisis, it is recommended that the Government should consider forming an Economic Recovery Advisory Committee, comprised of economic experts and representatives of all political parties, which would work independently and look at ways of getting the economy back on track. We all hope that we will get there in the end, one day.

There is no difference between the old and new Sindhis: Altaf Hussain

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has said that Sindh does not belong to any one group. He said that the Sindh belongs to everyone whose life and death are tied to this province. It belongs to all those who are born here and who are buried here when they die. They earn their livelihood here and spend here whatever they earn. The permanent residents of Sindh have to co-exist by accommodating each other and accepting each other’s rights.

Mr Hussain said this while talking to the visiting PPP delegation at the MQM Head Office Nine Zero. He welcomed Mr Amin Faheem, Mr Khursheed Shah, Mr Naveed Qamar and Mr Maula Bux Chandio on Nine Zero.
Talking to the PPP leaders Mr Hussain said that we were all residents of Sindh. Some were old Sindhis and some were new. He said that everyone would become old with the passage of time. He said that the land of Sindh had opened its arms to everyone. There should be no distinction between the old and the new Sindhis. Everyone had equal rights on Sindh.

Mr Hussain said that the differences would have to be removed, and issues should be resolved peacefully through understanding and dialogues. He said that it was not in the interest of anyone to fight. Sindh would suffer, and its people would suffer.
Mr Hussain hailed the arrival of the PPP delegation at Nine Zero and the efforts being made by President Asif Zardari for bringing peace and harmony in Sindh. He said that these positive efforts must continue.

Mr Hussain assured the PPP leaders that the MQM had always made practical efforts for the rights of Sindh. He said that he was ready to offer any sacrifice for the rights of Sindh and for maintaining the atmosphere of solidarity.
The PPP leaders agreed with the views of Mr Hussain and gave assurance that they would continue to work for bringing peace, harmony and order in the province.

MQM CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, ARSON AND BLOODSHED IN KARACHI ON THE PRETEXT OF A RALLY

KARACHI WAS PLUNGED INTO VIOLENCE AND LAWLESSNESS UNDER A PLANNED CONSPSIRACY
POLICE, RANGERS AND OTHER LAW-ENFORCING AGENCIES FAILED TO TAKE EFFECTIVE ACTION AGAINST TERRORISTS.

Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the killing of innocent people, including women and children, by the firing of armed terrorist on the pretext of a rally in Karachi. The committee also condemned the torching of vehicles and setting on fire shops and markets in various areas.

The committee said that the rejected elements that had taken out the rally in Karachi had planned the firing beforehand which was used as a pretext for violence and arson. Rockets were in fired in Boltan Market, Denso Hall, Pan Mandi, Jodia Bazar, Kharadar and other adjoining areas. Indiscriminate firing was done on the pedestrian and passer-byes and vehicles parked in market areas, and before shopping centres were set ablaze.

Public property was damaged and police stations were attacked with rockets, hand grenades, and other sophisticated and lethal weapons. Innocent people, including women and children received bullet injuries and died because of the intense firing of armed assailants. The elements involved in today’s violence and arson were the same that had taken on the police with heavy weapons sometimes ago.

The way Karachi was forced into violence and bloodshed on the pretext of the rally has demonstrated that the rally taken out by the rejected elements was the part of a planned conspiracy to create bloodshed and law and order situation in the city. It was not for expressing love for Sindh.

The Co-ordination Committee regretted that effective action was not taken by police, rangers and other law-enforcing agencies against the terrorists who went on a shooting spree and soaked the city in the blood of innocent people.

The Co-ordination Committee extended sympathies to the bereaved families who lost their loved-ones in the violence and bloodshed and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.

The Co-ordination Committee demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take serious notice of the unrestrained violence and mayhem in Karachi on the pretext of a rally and bring the elements responsible for the loss on innocent lives to book. The committee also called for effective steps for protecting the life and property of the people.

The Co-ordination Committee appealed to the general public to restrain their emotions in spite of the terrorist acts and maintain peace and order at every cost.

NAZEER HUSSAIN UNIVERSITY WILL BECOME A MILESTONE IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN: DR A Q KHAN

Renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadir Khan visited Nazeer Hussain University on Saturday and praised MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain for establishing a university for the people belonging to the poor and middle classes. He said that the NHU would prove to be a milestone in the field of education in the country and hope that more such institutions would be established in the future.

Dr Khan regretted that a uniform system of education did not exist in the country. He said that a uniform system of education should be established. He said it was the duty of every citizen of Pakistan to keep education safe from politics.

Dr Khan inspected departments of Architecture, Computer Science and Business Administration and praised the work done. He also gave useful advices for bringing further improvement.

Dr Khan said that there were educated people in the MQM. He said his own father was a school headmaster. He offered fateha for late Nazeer Hussain, the father of Mr Altaf Hussain, and appealed to the philanthropic people to donate generously for the university.

Earlier, Dr Khan was received at the NHU by provincial ministers Mr Rauf Siddiqui, Mr Shaikh Muhammad Afzal, Mr Faisal Sabzwari and Senator Abdul Haseeb. He was warmly welcomed and presented a bouquet on behalf of Mr Hussain.
